HopGuard Section 18 Approvals
Section 18 approvals for the use of HopGuard have been issued in Oregon, Washington and Idaho.  These three (3) state Departments of Agriculture banded together to make the emergency exemption request.  Although the product is not registered with the EPA, Section 18 of the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide and Rodencide Act (FIFRA) allows an unregistered product to be used in certain regional areas when an emergency pest situation exists and there is no viable alternative method of control.  Working with these agencies is BetaTec Hop Products, the maker of HopGuard.  HopGuard is a new pesticide designed to kill Varroa mites.  HopGuard is touted as a naturally occuring food-grade alternative to chemical pesticides.  It has been found safe to use even in queen-breeding operations because it has no negative effect on egg laying.  Visit http://www.betatechopproducts.com/markets/bee-health to learn more about HopGuard and its use.
