Managed honey bee colonies are critical for pollinating food, fiber and oil crops in the USA. It is estimated that 1 in 3 bites of food relies on honey bee pollination, and the need for pollinators is growing. At the same time, health threats to honey bees are growing, putting pressure on bees and the beekeepers whose livelihood is managing this resource.
Since 2006, Project Apis m. has been directing and funding honey bee research. In collaboration with some of the top researchers, scientists, and institutions in the world, Project Apis m. has influenced groundbreaking research that informs bee keepers, growers, and the scientific community, and is continuously working towards improving the health of the honey bee.
