We have a winner (winners)! Congratulations to our 2019 Pollinator Week #nowstedland Photo Contest winners! We received over 40 photo entries and over 800 votes. Scroll through to see the winning photos and learn more about the stories behind them.

#NoWastedLand is one of Project Apis m.'s tag-lines. As the landscape changes, it is becoming more important to create and preserve habitat for the honey bees and other pollinators that are so important! Our Seeds for Bees® program and The Bee and Butterfly Habitat Fund are working to put more pollinator habitat and forage on the landscape where it is needed most!

Thank you to all of our participants.

1st Place Grand Prize Winner:

Morgan Hay, Mellifex Farm, Bastrop Texas

A native megachile bee! In my pollinator field theres an abundance of native pollinators. My favorites are leafcutter bees and green sweat bees. There's also wasps, beetles, and bats (that pollinate the prickly pear)
"I took this photo in my backyard near Austin Texas. I have a field of wildflowers and prickly pears that attracts large numbers of pollinators, especially leafcutter and resin bees. We've even installed a bee hotel for them. The bee in the photo was collecting pollen so I think it was a female leafcutter bee. It was early in the morning and a bit chilly so she was slower than usual (they're normally very hard to get up close to!) which made it possible to take such a neat shot. I took it using my Panasonic Lumix fz300 camera."

Morgan won the grand prize generously donated by Mellivo - a 2 deep hive kit, beekeeping suit, 5 tool starter kit, and three raised bed garden boxes! You can learn more about Mellivo at: www.mellivo.com

2nd Place Winner:

Bremelin Romero, Brentwood New York

Bumblebees, the whales of the pollination world
"I took this photo in my backyard in Brentwood, NY. I captured it with my iPhone X."

Bremelin won the second place prize of a pre-planned pollinator garden from American Meadows. You can learn more about American Meadows at: www.americanmeadows.com

3rd Place Winner

Mary Marsh, Arbuckle California

Don't stop bee-lieving! Gotta love these busy little guys!
"I am a senior in agricultural communications at Kansas State University.  I am a sunflower field checker this summer.  I was out checking fields in mid-June and I had brought my camera just in case I saw something that caught my eye.  Lo-and-behold, I saw these bees doing their job and I took a snapshot!"

Mary won the third place prize of Alltrusit Chocolates - delicious and nutritious truffles that help save bees! Learn more about Alltruist Chocolates at: www.alltruistchocolates.com
