A. I. Root Company Honey Blends candles are a lovely example of the good that companies can do for the world, and for honey bees.

The A. I. Root Company has a fascinating story and a deep history with honey bees.  The founder, Amos Ives Root, became involved in candle-making through his interest in bee keeping. In the 19th century, he was behind many advances in bee keeping, leading the movement to standardizing beekeeping equipment. His Airline Honey was known nationally as the finest honey on the market. He wrote a popular book on bees - The ABCs of Bee Culture - and founded a magazine for bee keepers named Gleanings In Bee Culture.  Little wonder A.I. Root was known as "the bee man" in fifteen languages the world over.  Today, A. I. Root Company is still actively involved in advancing the knowledge and science of bee keeping.
A.I. Root’s legacy lives on today with Root Candles, founded in the 1920s by his sons.  Root's book, the ABCs and XYZs of Bee Culture is in its 42nd edition, and his magazine, in publication since 1873, is the same popular Bee Culture magazine that many of our readers know and love today.

Inspired by their “roots” which are so intertwined with honey bees and integrity, and because their products made from beeswax rely on healthy and productive bee colonies, A. I. Root Company supports Project Apis m. as one of our corporate partners.  By donating a portion of their Root Honey Blend candle proceeds, A. I. Root Company is making an investment in the honey bees they need to keep their business strong.  But it’s not just for their own interests that Root candles support honey bee health.   The research, technical transfer teams, and forage projects that Root is investing in through Project Apis m. also support beekeepers, agricultural producers, and everyone who wants to continue eating healthy, affordable food and enjoying the beauty in nature that pollinators are responsible for; a legacy that Amos Ives Root would be proud of.

As Brad Root, President of the A. I. Root Company says “We rely on honey bees and their keepers to provide a long-lasting resource for home and hearth, and we are dedicated to helping Project Apis m. solve these issues and save our bees, our beekeepers and our way of life”
With much gratitude, Project Apis m., and honey bees everywhere, would like to thank A.I. Root Company for their commitment to a healthy future for us all.
Watch A.I. Root company’s video here to learn more about the legacy of Amos Ives Root and how his family is continuing the tradition of innovation, integrity, and collaboration today.
