Curious about cover crops in almond orchards? Join UCCE Merced and UC Davis for an informative field day about maximizing the benefits of cover crops in almond orchards The University of California, Davis, has on-going research looking at benefits, tradeoffs and management of cover crops in Almond orchards. They will be having a field day on March 21st at Castle Farm (Merced) to share their results on impacts of various cover crop mixes on soil health, NOW management, bee health and habitat, water budget and nematode and weed suppression. They will also address management of cover crops (timing, species, soil prep, etc).
For more information about the event follow the link here. UC Davis is also gathering growers' input regarding their experience with cover crops and barriers to adoption, to refine their research agenda. Growers are encouraged to participate in a survey which helps researchers and programs like Seeds for Bees better understand how to serve them.
